Galaxy S22, S22+ To Feature The New ISOCELL GN5 50MP Camera
The Galaxy S22 series will be the next big smartphone launch from Samsung. The next-gen Galaxy flagships should arrive early next year. And as expected, rumors are already starting to build up. The latest information we have is about the rear cameras for the vanilla Galaxy S22 and the Galaxy S22+. According to seasoned Samsung insider Ice Universe, the two lower-end Galaxy S22 models will use the newly-launched ISOCELL GN5 sensor for the main camera. It is a 50-megapixel sensor with 1.0μm-sized pixels.
We have been hearing of the Galaxy S22 and S22+ featuring a 50-megapixel rear camera for some time now. However, there were speculations that Samsung will use the ISOCELL GN2 sensor, which has big 1.4μm-sized pixels. But it appears the company has settled for the newer GN5 sensor. That’s understandable because the latter is more recent and more advanced as well.
The ISOCELL GN5 uses the Dual Pixel Pro autofocus technology which, Samsung says, allows for quick, all-directional autofocusing. This sensor uses 2×2 pixel binning to capture 12.5-megapixel photos in low-light conditions. It also features the Korean firm’s proprietary Front Deep Trench Isolation (FDTI) technology that helps reduce crosstalk within the pixel by absorbing and hold more light.
This 50-megapixel (8,160 x 6,144 pixels resolution) camera supports 8K video recording at 30 fps (frames per second). You can also capture 4K videos at 120fps and FHD videos at 240fps.
The new report doesn’t reveal any other information about the Galaxy S22 series. However, previous reports suggest the vanilla Galaxy S22 and S22+ will feature the same camera setup at the back. Along with the aforementioned 50-megapixel primary shooter, we are expecting a 10-megapixel telephoto camera with 3X optical zoom. There should be a third, ultrawide camera as well.
There’s no 200-megapixel on the Galaxy S22 series
Samsung has reportedly already finalized the specs for its next-gen flagships. And word on the street is that none of the three models will feature its bonkers 200-megapixel camera launched alongside the aforementioned ISOCELL GN5 earlier this month. While we have already discussed the camera setup for the vanilla Galaxy S22 and S22+ above, the Galaxy S22 Ultra is said to feature the company’s third-gen 108-megapixel camera.
The Ultra model is also likely to retain the 40-megapixel front camera found on the Galaxy S21 Ultra. Don’t be hopeful of an under-display camera either. This tech likely isn’t yet ready for a top-of-the-line Samsung flagship. We should hear more about the Galaxy S22 series in the coming weeks as Samsung progresses with its development.
